ELIXIRS FOR BLACK BRILLIANCE AND RESILIENCE: HOODOO, MOJO AND CONJURING WITH PLANTN ALLIES AND MAGIKAL MATERIALS
Self-care is the most integral part of making our movement for Black Lives Sustainable. As Black people in the United States, we experience frequent assaults on our psyches, as we face multiple layers of violence and trauma. We are capable of observing our own bodies, hearts and minds as we respond to the messages we receive, caring for ourselves in a context of loving support and assistance. We must fortify and nurture ourselves continuously, consistently, equanimously.

In this hands-on DIY workshop we will nourish the whole mess and holiness of the individual and actively practice trust our bodies wisdom. To be a healer is to really trust the body’s wisdom as a practice; to practice clearing, enhancing, building, and nourishing through all of our various cycles, seasons, spirals, harmonies, disharmonies, and rhythms. We are all healers.  We will co-create a meditative and investigative environment to listen to and journal from our own bodies wisdom. We will learn about traditional Black-American seeds, roots, leaves, trees, flowers and oils as well as the traditional Black American hoodoo practices and formats for medicine-making, ritual, healing and conjuring. And alas we will each choose one form of Elixir to create for our own Brilliance and Resilience be it spiritual bath, smoke blend, herbal tea, mojo bag, amulet, vinegar tonic, foot track magick, or warriors powder.

Maintaining our self-are/worth is imperative to our healing. These chakra centered movements will allow us to tap into and develop our strength, internal center, breath and open heart; which will ultimately lead to relaxation and release. The practice of energy meditation will allow you to feel the energy that is you, that is all of us, serving as a reminder that we are all connected, while simultaneously quieting the mind.

However, on the other hand, we can strengthen this ability on purpose, making it a powerful source of healing not only for ourselves but also those around us. If we practice training our attention and listening deeply to our bodies, we can get more and more skilled at connecting to this inner resource, and supporting our communities to connect to and express it. This workshop will use storytelling, touch, and deep listening to invite participants to identify ways they can strengthen and share their resilience, to weave lives of fierce joy and radiant community.
